Elden Ring Online / Co-Op Features
In Elden Ring, players are able to invite and join other players’ worlds through the signs they leave on the ground. Players joining the world come in the form of a guardian spirit and have limited access to the host’s world.
Limited access means - similar to the previous titles - you can collect Rune Fragments (Soul, which is the currency) while in someone else's world, but you cannot rest and replenish your flasks at Sites of Grace (Bonfire) locations or progress in any kind of missions. You have to do these in your own world. Despite all, there are still great advantages to joining someone else's session. We will talk about them in the upcoming section.
You need to consume Furlcalling Finger Remedy to be in a position to summon someone. You can think of it as an Ember in Dark Souls 3. You can then see other people's signs and summon them.
However, just like Embers, this item is available in limited quantities across the game. That's why it’s important that you need to determine where and how often you should use it. When used recklessly, you may not be able to call anyone at one point.
Joining Other Players' World
Going into someone’s world to help them can be more rewarding than you think. First of all, it allows you to quickly accumulate Rune Fragments and helps you learn the strategies of the bosses you will encounter later on. You also earn Rune Fragments through those online sessions, and your leveling gets greatly accelerated. (Assuming you complete the objective and return to your world successfully.)
To join someone else's world for a cooperative multiplayer session, you need to use the Tarnished Furled Finger to leave your sign. When you get summoned, your objective will be to defeat the area boss of the world to which you were summoned.
Furlcalling Finger Remedy, on the other hand, allows you to see summon signs and has a limited use just like Embers in Dark Souls 3. If a player wants to summon you, they need to consume Furlcalling Finger Remedy.
This item makes the sign you leave on the ground visible to everyone, and others can invite you to their world through this sign. Same goes for you if you want to summon others to your world.
Apart from Tarnished Furled Finger, you can also be summoned to help a player anywhere in the world by using Blue Cipher Ring.
The other player needs to use the White Cipher Ring in order for them to answer your call and summon you. In other words, these rings are like single-line phones that respond to each other's call.
PvP and World Invasions in Elden Ring
As we have seen from previous FromSoftware games, Souls games are presented to players in a mixed form containing both singleplayer and multiplayer elements. This situation is not so different in Elden Ring either.
When a player plays a cooperative session with a friend, they can get invaded by someone else and the session can turn into a bloodbath.
Invading other players in Elden Ring
When you are the one invading, your goal is to kill the host. To be in a position to invade another player, you have to use Bloody Finger. In the previous titles, when you kill a real player, you usually get an item compatible with the Covenant you are in. We think that the situation will be similar in Elden Ring.
Another PvP mechanic requires you to use Duelist's Furled Finger. With this item, you leave your mark on the ground in a red color, and those who want to duel you, can invite you to their world through this sign. After an honorable fight, the winner swims in Rune Fragments and the summoned player returns back to their world again.
