The Star Name EOS Review

The Star Name EOS Review

Indie games always have unique perspectives, gameplay mechanics, and unique storytelling that contribute to the game world.

A quality independent game succeeds in impressing players and keeping a place in their minds, either in terms of gameplay or story. One of the best examples of this is Journey, which does not contain any dialogue, and What Remains of Edith Finch, which offers a different gameplay style. Even though games of this type are released every year, those that do not offer a special experience are all forgotten. However, The Star Name EOS, which will be released on July 23, 2024, can be a memorable work with both its storytelling and story.

7Very Good
  • Environment and art design
  • Interesting story
  • Connected puzzles
  • Voiceovers are monotonous

In this article, we will examine The Star Named EOS game, which brings a new breath to indie games and is designed for players who care about story and storytelling rather than gameplay.

The Star Named EOS Review

The Star Named EOS is a puzzle-solving and adventure game with a first-person perspective. In the game, you must solve both story parts and puzzles from a first-person perspective. Although some of the puzzles are quite easy to solve, it is possible to say that there are also sequences that will confuse players who are not accustomed to the genre. Frankly, you can easily notice that the part of the game exploring rooms or spaces from a first-person perspective has similarities with Life is Strange.

When starting this game, which recommends us to wear headphones to get the best experience, you will notice that the atmosphere, music and simple gameplay mechanics are interesting. In the first scene, you will discover the view from the perspective of a child holding the hand of a woman who hangs her camera around her neck. Afterwards, you can advance the dialogues and enter the story by clicking on the right places. In this scene, you will experience the past and the first sight of the star named EOS in the main character's dream. This first scene of the game, which tells about the past, is enough to attract the attention of the players and to continue playing.

While solving puzzles or exploring items, you will learn about the main character and his mother. This information will both connect you to the story and spark your curiosity to learn the whole story. We would also like to add that almost every object in the game can be examined. We recommend that you examine every item, especially in places such as the character's room or house. As you solve puzzles, you can unlock new items and learn information that will contribute to the story. For example, to decipher the locked safe in your room, you can explore various areas of the room and retrieve important items such as a camera and compass after opening the safe. The camera and compass are the items you need to solve different puzzles in the game.

The Star Named EOS Gameplay

The Star Named EOS offers players a very simple gameplay mechanic, collecting items and solving puzzles. However, to solve the game's puzzles, you need to collect the necessary items from different locations, and each item can be linked to each other. For example, the crank handle you find in your drawer allows you to operate a carousel music box and pick up the child figure inside the carousel. The child figure allows you to unlock the drawer of a miniature house and get the cartoon poster. In this way, you can advance the story and pass the current level by combining all the puzzle pieces and using them in the correct order. As you progress through the story, you will learn more about the main character and accompany his experiences.

Music and Voices

The game's music selections and atmospheric sounds are above expectations. For example, you can hear bird sounds and light wind sounds in a forest area or listen to the movement sounds of the objects you use while solving a puzzle. In addition, the background music of the game is regular and light enough to not cause headaches. However, when it comes to character voices and dialogues, it is not possible to say that the same quality continues. Character voices are monotonous and devoid of emotional tone as if reading a sentence from a book.

Atmosphere and Environmental Design

The graphics of the game consist entirely of three-dimensional drawings. The Star Named EOS offers players an environment design with sweet artwork. Every object or environmental element in the game is designed to be connected to the main character. For example, a miniature house in the game even includes the main character and his mother.

In addition to environmental and atmospheric design, you will discover drawing books, posters and photographs within the game. Each page of the drawing book is filled with children's drawings with different designs. In this respect, most of the game offers an art book experience, not a game.

Should I try The Star Named EOS?

If you like games like Journey and Viewfinder and are a player who cares about story and experience rather than gameplay, The Star Named EOS is designed for you. Even if you are not a fan of this genre, The Star Named EOS is a game you should try if you want to experience an interesting story instead of complex gameplay mechanics.
